How I Healed My Perioral Dermatitis Naturally

How I Healed My Perioral Dermatitis Naturally (Without Steroid Creams)

I struggled with perioral dermatitis for months and months. That stubborn, red, itchy rash that flares up around the mouth, chin and around eyes. I tried everything. Dermatologists prescribed steroid creams, antibiotics, and skincare products full of promises... but nothing helped. In fact, the steroid creams only made things worse. My skin became thin, reactive, and even more sensitive.

After trying everything I could think of, I finally turned to Google, desperately searching for ways to heal perioral dermatitis. I read every forum, blog, and Reddit thread I could find. That’s when I came across something unexpected: tallow.

I remember thinking, “What the heck? Beef fat on your face? That sounds weird.” But at that point, I had nothing to lose — and I was curious enough to give it a go.

Thank God I did. I ordered a tallow cream from a small natural skincare brand and to my surprise, it actually helped. The redness calmed down. The flaking stopped. It completely healed my skin.

That’s when I turned to natural remedies. I started learning about traditional skincare — ingredients that our grandmothers and great-grandmothers might have used. That’s how I discovered tallow.

🐄 What Is Tallow — and Why Is It So Good for Skin?

Tallow is rendered beef fat — but don’t let that put you off. Grass-fed, purified tallow is incredibly rich in skin-loving nutrients like:

  • Vitamins A, D, E & K

  • Omega fatty acids

  • Conjugated linoleic acid (CLA)

Unlike many commercial moisturisers, tallow is bio-identical to the oils our skin naturally produces. That means it absorbs beautifully, without clogging pores or causing irritation.

🌼 Why I Infuse Jojoba Oil with Calendula

To make my cream even more soothing, I infuse jojoba oil with dried calendula flowers. Calendula is well-known for its anti-inflammatory and skin-healing properties, especially for sensitive or damaged skin. Jojoba itself closely resembles the skin’s own sebum, making it the perfect carrier.

Together, they create a powerful but gentle moisturiser that helped calm my inflammation, restore my skin barrier, and completely clear my dermatitis — no steroids, no chemicals, just real ingredients.

🧴 Moo Glow Was Born

That’s how Moo Glow came to life. I started making my own tallow-based skincare — carefully sourcing ingredients, rendering and purifying the fat myself, and infusing it with healing herbs. I wanted something even more gentle, simple, and trustworthy than what I had bought — and I wanted to share it with others.

If you're struggling with perioral dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, or just sensitive skin that reacts to everything, I get it. I’ve been there. And I believe that sometimes, going back to basics is the most powerful thing we can do.
